Sally Deskins is the community editor for the West Edition where she also lives with her husband John and their children May and Henry. After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in studio art and a Master of Public Administration in nonprofit management from University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Omaha respectively, she worked in local nonprofits fundraising and events planning before coming to the writing staff of The Reader in 2006. She teaches Grant Writing and Arts Administration at Metropolitan Community College and has a special interest in arts policy and creativity in communities. She contributed to the 2007 Peter Kiewit-funded project, “The Economic Impact of Omaha Performing Arts” and an upcoming publication with Review of Regional Studies for her and her husband’s article, “Does State Arts Spending Affect State Economic Activity?” Her passion is community, and through her writing with Neighborhood News West, she hopes to help unite neighbors and present inspiring stories of those right around your corner.
