NASA has been making front-page headlines and piquing the interest of children across the country with its final space shuttle launch. Harness your child's interest in space by attending a presentation about NASA's upcoming Juno Mission to Jupiter. The activity will begin at 10:30 on Tuesday at the Bennington Public Library, 15505 Warehouse Street in Bennington. Local educator Brian Penke will discuss the mission, and attendees will make a Juno spacecraft model. The hour-long presentation and activity are geared toward school-age children and their families. Mahogany, a fashion show featuring local designers, will be held Wednesday, July 27th at the Carlisle Hotel, 10909 M Street. Harrison Street Closing

At 1 p.m. today, a new heat advisory takes effect. Heat indices are expected to peak between 105 and 115 degrees. According to the National Weather Service, the advisory won't expire until 8 p.m., around the time that cooler air could potentially mean strong thunderstorms around the area. The heat saps energy, can have potentially negative health effects and continues to impacts roads in and around the area. In an effort to prevent heat-related expansion damage, Harrison Street will by closed in both directions between 118th and 124th streets from 9 p.m. to midnight July 26. 84th Street Closure

Drivers may want to avoid 84th Street just north of Park View Boulevard in La Vista this morning. Northbound 84th Street is closed in that area to allow crews to repair a bulge in the pavement likely resulting from hot temperatures, Mitch Beaumont, La Vista Community Relations Coordinator, said Emergency repairs should be complete around noon. Until then, traffic is being rerouted toward Harrison Street via 78th Street. Permanent repairs on 84th Street are scheduled for later this week into next week. Leadership Sarpy Application Deadline Looms

Just 25 slots are available for the 2011-2012 Leadership Sarpy Program and applications must be turned in July 29. The class is open to anyone who lives, works or does business in Sarpy County. Leadership Sarpy participants meet once a month for 10 months in an all day session. Omaha Area Under Excessive Heat Warning

Douglas County is under an excessive heat warning until Tuesday morning, with temperatures predicted to reach the mid- to high-90s. With the high levels of humidity, the heat indexes are expected to reach between 105 and 112 degrees F during the next few days and drop down only into the 80s overnight. Such high temperatures and heat indexes can cause heat stroke and other serious health issues. Follow these recommendations from the National Weather Service to stay cool and healthy over the weekend: -Keep out of the sun, especially during the afternoon hours.
