Bellevue Artists Association helps build relationships and open the doors to greater artistic skills.

The Bellevue Artists Association's summer art show is in full swing at Bellevue University's Hitchcock Humanities Center on the south end of campus. About 50 entries were expected in the annual juried show set to hang through June 30. Association Co-President Kathy Jurek said pieces represented a variety of mediums.

Organizing three shows a year is part of the association's mission to help bring awareness to area artists. Monthly meetings, educational workshops and competitions also give members opportunities to share their talents, meet other artists and increase their skills.

“We have a monthly theme and a competition for Artist of the Month,” Jurek, a 13-year member of the club, said. “Winners are awarded a check and the opportunity to hang their work at the Bellevue Library.” An educational presentation or demonstration is another piece of the monthly meetings. Of course, so is the 30-minute social time that kicks off each gathering.

“I think the best part has been the relationships I've developed with people in the club,” Jurek said. “I now get together with some of them outside meetings to paint.”

The Bellevue Artists Association meets the second Tuesday of each month, 6:30 - 8:30 p.m., from September through June at the Bellevue Public Library. Visitors are always welcome. The program in June is an end-of-the-year potluck. For more information, visit www.bellevueartists.com. The annual membership fee is $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for students.
