When Omaha Performing Arts announced that they were seeking a new home for Jazz on the Green, they didn’t have to look far for the ideal setting. It was in the final stages of being built right before their eyes in the heart of Omaha.

In January, Omaha Performing Arts adopted the 25-year-old concert series from the Joslyn Art Museum and announced plans to hold Omaha's long-time summer favorite at Midtown Crossing at Turner Park. The newly-improved public space offered the perfect opportunity for the series to not only continue, but to grow.

“This is one of the finest partnerships in Omaha,” said Molly Skold, Marketing Director for Midtown Crossing at Turner Park. “It’s a most ideal setting, spacious and lush, with eight acres of green grass and plenty of parking.”

Veterans of Jazz on the Green might notice a few changes to the series at its new home. Patrons will be allowed to bring refreshments, including beer and wine, and lay out blankets in advance. With new businesses continuing to pop up at Midtown Crossing, Skold said there will also an opportunity for a street fair-like atmosphere with vendors offering everything from pre-packed picnic baskets to freshly baked desserts.

Jazz on the Green kicks off its six-week season on July 8 at 7:00 p.m. The series runs on Thursdays through August 12 and is sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield, Mutual of Omaha and Omaha Steaks.
